Community Development in Llanedeyrn

2017-03-03-PHOTO-00000002.jpg

Spring has arrived so it's great to see volunteers in Llanedeyrn getting stuck into growing their own at Ysgol y Berllan Deg. With the help of my community liaison officer, Martin Gower, parents and grandparents have begun preparing the beds for planting.

This will allow the school to grow their own fruit and veg. Gardens are a great sustainable resource and a great learning tool across all areas of the curriculum. It’s not just science, literacy and numeracy. Where does food come from? (Geography) What do I need to keep me healthy? (PSE) Learning outdoors promotes good behaviour and increases confidence.

I can't wait for summer to see the results of everyone’s efforts.

This initiative is one of many projects I want to support across Cardiff Central. If you would like to get involved please get in touch at Jenny.Rathbone@assembly.wales, I'd love to hear from you.
