Free Childcare for Working Parents under Labour

One of Labour's pledges for the Welsh Assembly Elections on May 5th is to provide free childcare for working parents

A future Welsh Labour Government will provide 30 free hours of childcare for working parents, for 48 weeks of the year. This is the most ambitious childcare offer in the UK. This will supplement the Flying Start scheme we already have in place in our most disadvantaged communities. This is an investment not just in working families, or our children’s future – but in our economy too.

Welsh Labour is committed to ensuring every child has the best start in life. This two hours a day is designed to maximise the benefit to the child as there is very solid research that the child’s development is better served by two hours a day, rather than rolling into one or two days.

What Labour's pledge will do is offer wraparound childcare, on top of the early year’s education at the place of your choice, normally where your child is also receiving their early education. This 30 hours will ensure that both parents can work, even if one is part time. This enables people to retain their skills and not fall out of the workforce for 4 years.

This pledge is far more ambitious and generous than what the Tories, Lib Dems or Plaid Cymru are offering.

Vote Labour on May 5th
