A number of years ago I was diagnosed with full blown AIDS. This meant first the removal of a tumour (cancerous) then the start of retro-viral and other drugs for different conditions. After starting this treatment, at one visit my consultant advised me that my life expectancy was 6 months.
With continuing support and help over the years, despite all odds, I am still alive. This is simply down to the excellent treatment and care that a National Health Service has given me.
If you look at England a lot of Health Care Trusts are now running a deficit and in my opinion this is the prelude to privatising the service. The Health and Social Care act 2012 now allows 49% of services to be privatised in England. Do we want that in Wales? I don’t. My life depends on it.
The forthcoming Assembly elections concern me and I would like to ask your readers to think very carefully about how they vote. The Welsh Health Service at the moment is fully publicly owned and run by the people for the people. If your readers want the break up of this service, then vote Tory or one of the parties that would do a deal to prop them up. Should they form the next Welsh Government, our Health Service would not be protected.
Yours Mr H Owens
