On the 14th June 2016 I sponsored an event in the National Assembly for Wales with Diabetes UK for Diabetes Week. The campaign aimed to promote the truth about diabetes, and encourage people to share their experiences of diabetes with their political representatives.
Almost everyone has heard about diabetes. 3.5 million people are currently diagnosed with diabetes in the UK, and a further 549,000 have the condition but do not know it yet. Most of us know a friend or family member living with diabetes, and yet it is still hugely misunderstood, and there are so many myths and misconceptions out there, which is why this event wanted to promote the truth about diabetes.
The event was a huge success, with many sharing their experiences and stories with their Assembly Members. Some heart-breaking stories were told, while some heart-warming, both drawing attention to the need to talk more about the truths of diabetes.
